So cal Music Directors Honored at Hollywood Bowl!!

Post by jacjar1 » Mon Jun 26, 2006 9:09 pm

The Hollywood Bowl broke the seal on its 2006 summer season Friday night with its annual Hall of Fame induction gala. The opening night ceremony, which featured performances by new inductees Andre Watts and Carlos Santana, also serves as a benefit for the Los Angeles Philharmonic's music education program, Music Matters.

A trio of music teachers at three Southern California schools were awarded $2,500 grants apiece toward music education programs as part of the 2006 Inspire the Future Contest. Honored choral teacher Joseph Maggio (of Strathern Stret Elementary School), history teacher John Warling (Placerita Junior High School) and band and color guard teacher Mark Stone (Ayala High School) each sat with the student who nominated him.

A fourth, Downey High School Jazz Band Music Director Cory Olariu was awarded a $2,500 grant and $11,000 in musical equipment after he watched his band take the Bowl stage for a swinging and decidedly snazzy set.
