Phantom Regiment - Glendora Show

Post by xBandx » Sun Jul 06, 2003 9:20 pm

Does anyone know why four members of Phantom just stood at parade rest in the Side 1 endzone for the whole show?

They are alternates.

I don't know for sure, but that's a pretty common thing to see at the beginning of the season. It generally means that those people are new additions to the corps (ie, only been with the group a few days or so... yes, I know drum corps tryouts are in Nov/Dec, but believe me, just about every corps adds members during the season) and haven't learned the drill yet.

I remember a few years back (okay, several, I think it was 1992 or 1993) the Crossmen had a brass player who marched only three shows the whole season: Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals!! He didn't join up with the corps until late July, and didn't perform with them until Finals week.
