Phantom Phan's DCI Rankings (06/30/03)

Post by Hostrauser » Tue Jul 01, 2003 2:28 am

Hello all. That time of year again, time for my weekly DCI rankings, to give you a sort of snapshot as to how each corps currently sits in the standings. This is actually the SECOND set of rankings; I was unable to post the first week's rankings last week because of the forum being down.

The rankings are based on score RATINGS given to each of the corps based on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday performances of each week. Every corps receives a score rating for each of the three days, even if they didn't perform (in this instance, the rating is determined by the point spreads of other corps who they have recently competed against).

All ratings are weighted. Ratings based on real performances get more input than "ghost" ratings for the days a corps didn't perform.

Days are weighted, too. The Saturday and Sunday ratings are given more input to the Final ranking than the Friday rating.

A "growth spread" is also measured, since sometimes the scores climb drastically in one part of the country while stagnating in another. This is also taken into consideration.

Eight different (but relatively simple) score rating formulae are used based on the circumstances (ie, the number of times the corps performed this weekend), but not every formula will be used every week.

And now... on to the Division I Rankings...

Thank God you're back Phantom! I was wondering when we'd see the Div. 1 rankings again. Been to any shows yet this year??

Awesome, I'm gonna try to go with a big group to the 7/5 show at Citrus College. Can't wait to see Phantom (Regiment) and SCV, plus Pacific Crest so I can root for some friends of mine.

I follow Div. II, but I no longer rank them. The judging in Div. II isn't as consistant as in Div. I.

Phantom will blow your mind. Outstanding show. You don't LISTEN to their low brass, you FEEL it... it's like being punched in the chest (but much, much more enjoyable). :D

Cuz there's no San Diego show this weekend. Div 1s go bye bye and the Div 2/3s stick around a bit.

Hey Phantom, I went to the Glendora show last night and saw Phantom (the corps)...everything you said about them was true. They were UNBELIEVEABLE. My jaw dropped at their performance and how well it was...it exceeded my own expectations. With all due respect to the other corps though...Mandarins were cool, and so was Pacific Crest, they were great...and SCV was awesome too. But Phantom was absolutely amazing...I hope they'll come back to California next year.

Nope, too expensive to do it every year. Cadets will be back out in 2004, then the Crossmen in 2005.

w0000000000000000t Cadets! I've wanted to see them for awhile...now we need Cavies to come out her in 2006 and I'll be perfectly content. 8-)

That's too bad...but that's great to hear about The Cadets and the Crossmen! I'm gonna make a big effort to go with some friends to Championships next year in Denver, that way I'll be able to see every great corps.
