iPhone rants

Anyone wanna rant about their "favorite" phone? I'll start...

ver. 3.1 software update is a bust! It caused my iPhone to freeze so much to the point it would be unusable for minutes at a time. So I had Apple swap it out after showing them proof.

Out of the box, iPhones are running ver. 3.0.1. My replacement is just that, and I ain't updating the software anytime soon.

I jailbroke mine after 3.0 and haven't updated since. After hearing about so many stability problems with 3.1, I'm definitely not planning on updating!

New unstable software updates are nothing new. I usually wait at least a week to a month before installing an update, depending on how big it is.

iphone 3.0 i waited a couple weeks.
3.1 i went a week and decided not to install
Vista updates I wait a full month.
Firefox - 1 week

Only thing I put on instantly is an anti-virus update.

I don't have an iPhone (yet), but get ready to pay for your Starbucks using the Starbucks Card Mobile app. (Note that link should take you into iTunes.)
Note that since the app is still in it's infancy, it only works in select Starbucks in Silicon Valley, CA. & Seattle, WA.

Oh nooooooo... More of my money going to Starbucks. I'm already addicted enough as I am.
Adding to the rants... What cases are you peeps using for your iPhones?
I just bought an Otterbox Impact case, and I'm not used to having the silicone skin come up around the screen. Gonna give that case to one of my students instead.
I had the Juicepack Air, it was nice, but too slippery, and I felt like the battery sitting behind the phone interfered with the signal.
I'm back to my favorite case, Griffin Wave Case (blue)

I use a pretty standard clear hard shell case from Griffin. I know some people don't like the feeling that you could drop it at anytime, but it works for me.

Hmm... Tomorrow's the 25th, and At&t is supposed to roll-out the MMS update for iPhones. Since you already know my current rant about the freezing update, who's gonna update theirs? Here's a video of what 3.1 does (it's at the end of the clip) http://www.spokenword.org/program/482800

Unless you decide to buy a netbook like my girlfriend did. Microsoft designed Windows 7 Starter Edition specifically to be released on netbooks. Well suprise! Despite all the commercials about Microsoft listening to customers when designing windows 7, it turns out starter edition has disabled the ability to change your desktop wallpaper!!! Yup that's right, you're stuck with a plain background with a windows logo in the middle. I'm sure that's something customers were requesting. Just another example of microsoft trying to force their brands onto the world. Who in the world keeps their default background??? Windows 7 is just as much of a disaster as every update of a windows operating system. But oh well, I don't use it so I'm happy.

I don't use an iPhone so no comment there, but according to the commercials the new droid phone by verizon is supposed to surpass the iPhone in every way...i guess we will see.

Went to Best Buy, played with the Droid, meh.

I'm all for the Droid to be successful, but to have the Euro version be capable of multitouch and have it crippled on the US version sucks. I tried the physical keyboard, and it's fairly uncomfortable since it's crammed to the left and not centered. I also tried the on-screen keyboard, and without that multitouch, the phone drops the letters that your other finger tries to type, so you're stuck with chopped words if you type fast. Otherwise, it feels pretty solid.

Windows 7... Sorry to hear about the Starter Edition. I just installed Ultimate via VMWare on my Mac, it's not bad. Only thing is, since I'm running it virtually on a non-Pro Macbook, I can't really expect it to run über-fast. That's my fault. It's pretty though.

Back to the iPhones... I went back to the JuicePack Air. I spend too much time away from a USB, car charger, and a wall outlet to not have an extra battery attached to the phone.
