WOP Football Pool!

Post by formermarcher » Fri Sep 12, 2003 9:12 am

So it looks like the old football pool got erased...no biggie, here's another one!
Pick your teams to win off of the provided list. Each correct pick gets you one point.

When you pick the monday night winner, please put the TOTAL SCORE next to your pick (so a 17-7 game would mean you put 24 points). This way we can have a tie-breaker.

*****Please do not edit your picks after the games have started. I will not check, so you'll have to be honest enough not to do it. Besides, its tells us when you edit.*****

The winner is the one with the most points and gets to wear the crown :king: and gets the bragging rights for the week.

Alrighty, here are the games, with thier overall records:

ATLANTA (1-0) Washington (1-0)
GREEN BAY (0-1) Detroit (1-0)
INDIANAPOLIS (1-0) Tennessee (1-0)
KANSAS CITY (1-0) Pittsburgh (1-0)
ST. LOUIS (0-1) San Francisco (1-0)
NEW ORLEANS (0-1) Houston (1-0)
Miami (0-1) NEW YORK (NYJ) (0-1)
Buffalo (1-0) JACKSONVILLE (0-1)
BALTIMORE (0-1) Cleveland (0-1)
Seattle (1-0) ARIZONA (0-1)
TAMPA BAY (1-0) Carolina (1-0)
OAKLAND (0-1) Cincinnati (0-1)
PHILADELPHIA (0-1) New England (0-1)
Denver (1-0) SAN DIEGO (0-1)
MINNESOTA (1-0) Chicago (0-1)
NEW YORK (NYG) (1-0) Dallas (0-1) (MONDAY NIGHT!)

Here are my picks-
Washington over Atlants

San Fran over St. Louis
New Orleans over Houston
Miami over the Jets
Bills over Jags
Ravens over Browns
Seahawks over Cards

Only two people in the pool!!!??? :? Ahhh, ok. I guess it's formermarcher and I going head-to-head. Here are the results of Sunday's games, excluding the night game, since it's still going on.

Washington over Atlanta 33-31
Baltimore over Cleveland 33-13
Green Bay over Detroit 31-6
Indianapolis over Tennessee 33-7
Buffalo over Jacksonville 38-17
Kansas City over Pittsburgh 41-20

formermarcher has gone 9-5. I've gone 8-6. We both have the same picks for the Sunday Night and Monday Night games, so that means:

formermarcher has already won the pool!!! :king: And I (clarinetdude) came in a close second (out of 2 :? )

Congrats formermarcher! You get the crown :king: .

Hope more of you guys participate in the pool for next week!!! 8-)

YIPEE!
This week was....strange, I guess.
So after one full week and one sunday, I have gone a total of:

19-11, with tonight to be played, but I don't see how the cowboys can win, so I'll go 20-11, and be off to an okay start.

OOO!
Phantom Phan is going out on a limb here! Cinci over Pitt? I must admit Cinci is playing better than expected, but still...

Pittsburgh's defense is HIGHLY overrated. The Bengals did a capable job vs. Oakland this past Sunday, and I expect that to carry over to this week. If Cincinnati can clamp down on Pittsburgh's terrific passing game, they can pull out the win. Having the game in Cincy will help, too.

Oh, and I was 12/16 in week one, and 9/16 in week two. So far this season I've predicted 21 of 32 winners (.656); in Yahoo! Pick 'Em, I'm #122 out of 2635 in the "Fans of San Diego" group and #11,052 out of 190,549 overall, putting me in the 94th percentile. So far so good...

Well, you've gotten the better of me there. I also am in that yahoo pick 'em I rank 37987 out of the overall total. I rank 2953 out of 14830 in the "Fans of Dallas". I was 9/16 in week one and 10/16 in week two, so I'm 19 of 32 (.594). I'm not too far behind, just two points.

I agree that Cinci did a capable job against the Raiders. The Raiders are not the same team the were last year, but they are still pretty good but I am not convinced that Cinci can beat Pitt. It was like when Houston beat Miami...then they got pounded by New Orleans 31-10. I see the same sort of situation here with Cinci. They almost beat the Raiders but will not beat the Steelers.

In week two, Dillion carried 19 for 84 (about 4 and a half yards a carry). So he did slightly better than week 1.
On the whole, the recievers did better, and there were no fumbles at all.
However, Kitna was 25-41 for 303 yards, and again 1TD and 2 Int. He did about the same as last week.

But so far in terms of defense, the Steelers are the top AFC while Oakland is 3rd to last, only ahead of San Diego and Miami.

What I see is thet Dillon will probably not have a 100 yard game, the recievers will play much as they have recently, and Kitna will once again fail to do anything spectacular. The team will improve for week 3, but not enough to deal with Pittsburg.
Offensivley, Pitt. averages 27 points per game (4th in the AFC) and Cinci averages 15 points per game (13th in the AFC).
Unless Kitna pulls off what Quincy Carter did last Monday Night, and Dillion runs for 100+ yards, there won't be much offense output. They'll have to rely on thier defense, which isn't looking so great.

Thats just what I think, though.
