Actually, they don't. I've been taking some to the market every week now for a year and I've never had to wash them. My biggest problem with them is that baggers tend to fill them like a paper bag and not put in enough.
Actually, mine do. Milk leaks, eggs break, they get set on a wet floor, etc. Our baggers overfill them and I've had handles break because of the weight.

Costco and Sam's Club's idea of using boxes works to a point, but then what when you get them home? The point is taxing people to force them to go green isn't a viable solution.

uh huh ... and they tax those too.
