I've been to Davao and General Santos City. I have a client in Zamboanga I need to see. I'm not afraid to go south.

The answers explained:

1. These commercials for Bear Brand Milk look like public service ads. They are in the Tagalog language and have a statement at the end of the message that they are paid for by Nestle, the producers of Bear Brand Milk.

2. The best way to tell which companies are owned by the San Miguel Brewery is to watch PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) games on TV. Most of the teams represent divisions of San Miguel, which includes the Coca-Cola Tigers. Tournaments are hosted by KFC, which has no connection with the beer company.

3. Pizza is only sold at McDonald's in Canada. Spaghetti is big here. The local nickname for McDonald's is "McDo's."

4. The purest tap water in the Philippines is said to come from Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.

5. Lady's Choice is a division of Unilever.

6. A cyclo is a bicycle taxi used in Vietnam.

There are two kinds of tricycles. One is a covered motorcycle with a sidecar. The other is a covered bicycle with a sidecar. They go everywhere except freeways/toll roads.

7. Comfort Room is abbreviated CR in polite company. It's the most important English term to know in the Philippines.

8. Other bakeries include Red Ribbon (mentioned, owned by Jollibee) and Julie's.

9. The term goes back to World War II and refers to G.I. Joe, a nickname for soldier. A Filipino named Joseph is called Joseph.

10. Quezon City has a population of 2,173,831. Manila has a population of 1,581,082. The two cities are neighbors and it's difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins, except for the street signs.

I got a 60... I should be ashamed, I was just at the Philippines this summer. I'm surprised I didn't get the San Miguel beer question, all I watched on TV while I was there was Philippines Basketball...

I scored a respectable 60, considering I haven't visited my father's homeland in over 30 years. Remembered some things, porgot others, LOL.....
About some of your questions....
4. Debatable. My grandfather's plantation in Tigaon (Huyon-Huyon Province, Camarines Sur) had a well with great water. The wells of the Bicol Provinces have great water.
9. Nonsense. I have plenty of relatives named "Joe", "Jo", or "Jojo" --- short for Jose, Josue, Jovan, Joraldo, Jor-El (don't ask) and yeah, Joseph, as well as Josephus.

So, have you seen some rats the size of cats? Rats get huge in Manila Metro.......

The Joe answer...

It might be true OUTSIDE the Philippines, but there is no one named Joe. Trust me. Joey, yes, but no Filipino here is named Joe. Find me one living here who has NOT been to America and I will apologize.

I didn't say Jojo, Joel, or other derivative.
