With Barack Obama becoming President and Democrats in control of the Legislature, Bush's education albatross "No Child Left Behind" is bound for a massive (much-needed and long-overdue) overhaul.

In my experience, the light at the end of the tunnel that you are talking about, usually turns out to be the headlight of the onrushing locomotive. Watch out! Any badly needed revamp of the "No Child Left in Band" act will probably set performing arts back another generation. I don't trust any of them!!!

NCLB is bad, but I would have to argue that the worst legislation ever honor goes to the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) anti-circumvention laws. Check out EFF's list of abuses of DMCA.
The EFF (Electronic Frontiers Foundation) wrote:In practice, the DMCA and DRM have done nothing to stop "Internet piracy." Yet the DMCA has become a serious threat that jeopardizes fair use, impedes competition and innovation, chills free expression and scientific research, and interferes with computer intrusion laws
