Schwarzenegger for Governor?

Post by Trumpet Man 05 » Wed Aug 06, 2003 5:57 pm

Well, the suspense is over--Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced tonight that he will be running for governor of California. What are your thoughts and opinions about this announcement, and this whole recall too?

As a young conservative (yeah I'm rare) first I'm going to research the other Republican candidates first before placing my vote into an actor. I know this recall will cost the state but how much more is keeping Gray Davis in office going to cost?

Former WWF superstar Jesse "The Body" Ventura was previously the governor of Minnesota, if that's who you were referring to.

I don't know what to think. Cuz yeah, I want Gray Davis out of the whole politic thingy and away from cali, but I have to question Arnold. I still think that he should stay in hollywood and away from politics and let the people who know how to run a state run the state. Yet, between Davis and Arnold, I think I'd be a little hypocritical and choose Arnold.

True, but consider the fact that Schwarzenegger has never held a political office before, and is, to the best of everyone's knowledge, inexperienced in politics. Electing him may be a good thing...but then again, it may not. Same thing with Larry Flynt (who, if there were a list of people that should not be running for gov., this guy would be #1 with a bullet for me). So be careful what you wish for...

I just hope that this move doesn't end up being a big disaster for Schwarzenegger, because anyone who shares my birthday and still kicks butt at 56 is pretty cool to me. :)

Can anyone tell me EXACTLY what Davis did? All I know is that the gas prices went up, the school budget is cut, and my mom complains about him A LOT. Pardon me for I am not a politics person....

The gas prices going up I don't think was Davis' fault. I think it was because OPEC decreased their production of oil, and then the price of each barrel of oil went up. Someone correct me if this is wrong...

Yes he did cut our budget, not just in education, but in a lot of other things. Oh yeah, and I think he is responsible for the deregulation of electricity, which will haunt California for at least 20 more years! Anyone got anything else on this guy?

I don't, but the electrical crisis was Davis' fault from what I understand.

As if this recall election couldn't get any more bizarre, Gary Coleman has announced that he will be running for governor too and will file his papers this coming week. Oy vey! Also, I heard on the news today that there are over 100 potential candidates that will run for governor (they gave the exact number, but I missed it).

I guess this is a bad time to announce this, but I'll be running for governor as well, and filing my papers this coming Wednesday. Vote for TM5 on October 7!
