Schwarzenegger for Governor?
Moderators: malletphreak, Hostrauser
This morning when I woke up, the first thing I heard was that some porn star was running for governor. It heard it on KROQ. She said that if if criminals just turn in their pistols then they can get a lap dance, something like that. I don't think this is right. Does anyone else know about this person?

I don't think we should worry about this person getting elected.mytree003 wrote:This morning when I woke up, the first thing I heard was that some porn star was running for governor. in america we have voters that dont really care and/or know what the canidate they are voting for is all about. we are proud to support those people!Trumpet Man 05 wrote:Yes, but you need to question yourself why that person is a good candidate for governor. Yes, Arnold is a mega-celebrity, but that shouldn't be the reason why people vote for him. You should vote for a candidate because of their views, their ambitions, and their ability to lead the state (at least that's my opinion), and so far, Schwarzenegger has left everyone in a loophole as to where he stands on subjects (abortion, deficits, etc.), and his views, and what he promises to do if elected. I like Arnold, but I just hope that this gubernatorial thing doesn't flop for him like the movie Junior did. Right now, if I were 18, I wouldn't vote for him...I want to be assured that he is the right candidate based on his views and goals, not because he can handle a bazooka pretty darn good.
That's my two cents.

I love situations like this, because they make it so painfully obvious what a joke our democracy has become. The founding fathers set up a terrific system of government (the most advanced representative republic the world has ever seen), but it has been horribly disfigured and derailed over the past 50-100 years.
So, back in the late 1980s, who here watched the movie "Predator" and thought "ah yes, there's two future governors in this movie?" (Remember? Jesse Ventura and Ah-nold were both in "Predator")

Its not a joke, its her right. If she wants to run, then let her. As long as she has the legal papers, she can. Doesn't matter if your a mailman, a CEO, a student, democracy means you can run for these positions. I know its completely stupid that she thinks she can win (and she won't), but at least she's allowed to try.
Joke of democracy? Nope, just its exercise.

Thats not the point.
The point is that anyone can run for governor even if they knew they'd lose. Its more for publicity than anything, I'd think. But still, the people know better than to put a porn star into the governor's office.
But that doesn't change the fact that they can still run.
But as for why, my guess is publicity. But if they have $3500 to spend freely, then there must be something more to it.

You're exaggerating. You may think that most Americans are stupid, but I think people are informed enough through TV and news and stuff like that to make a good decision when it comes to governor. Also, I think most if not all Americans are actually SERIOUS when they are voting. They understand that the future of the country is determined by who they elect. This recall election is special, because we are looking for someone who could turn California back in the right direction, and I'm sure most of the voters for this election will be serious, and not vote for any stupid candidates on the ballot. There are not as many stupid people as you think in this country, and even if there are stupid people voting for the stupid candidates, they will still be outnumbered because there are too many people actually taking this election seriously, and most people actually have values and wouldn't be stupid enough to elect a pornstar into office.IsnipeWithAknife wrote:pssht! i dont think so there are alot of dumb americans. One thing I saw on the news that was positive was that Arnold's involvement could increase voter turn out. It's scary to think of all the eligible voters out there only a fraction of them vote.
In this state we've got more democrats even though we have strong strong pockets of conservatives around the state. With Arnold in the mix I wonder who that'll affect the voting by democrats.

Yes and no. There aren't as many "dumb Americans" as you would think. A good example of this are the good people that post on these discussion boards.pssht! i dont think so there are alot of dumb americans.
That's true, but there have been a few moments when the voter has voted someone extremely popular, and it has payed off in the end. Remember when Bill Clinton played the sax on Arsenio Hall? He didn't turn out to be a bad president...although there were a few moments, as everyone knows, that overshadowed and ruined his career.SOME people know better and others(a good number of dumb folks) dont.

Oh man ... when I heard about his, err, 'private activies', I thought it was the funniest thing in the WORLD. I like "High five for getting some!" but then "Boo cuz it wasn't your wifey" But I didn't feel that he needed to go through the whole impeachment deal. And I think someone like Robert DeNiro or Robin Williams should run for Governor ... that would definitely mix it up. Hah ...Trumpet Man 05 wrote:Remember when Bill Clinton played the sax on Arsenio Hall? Only bad thing is that there is a lot of head contenders who are Republican, and that could really split up the Republican vote.

Robin Williams is awesome!! People need some humor, need to loosen up a bit and quite being so uptight. Wouldn't it be cool to have a governor who when gives a speech hits on a lot of important issues while making you laugh? Hehe, except for the serious not to be joked about like 9-11.
