The new forum software doesn't support more than 3 embedded quotes. That means no more of these.

When I moved to the Philippines from Vietnam, I was happy that I was in a country that has McDonald's (which they call "McDo's"). Some are open 24 hours a day.

I relocated to a city that has NO McDonald's. It feels a lot like Vietnam...

I can get...

coffee pots...

root beer...

aspirin over the counter...

Plus, I can drink the water as it comes from the tap...

Do that in Vietnam and you drink...
MUD!

I learned today (actually yesterday) that this right of voting is something that I cherish now that I've done it for the first time.

I've learned apparently people are more afraid of gay people than abortion. And that scares me.

Agreed.

I learned that too many people feel their religious and moral beliefs outweigh the right of every American citizen to enjoy same treatment under the law, and that's disappointing.

Yes on 8 votes can rationalize it however they want: I will forever see them as hateful bigots.

The small glimmer of hope: 61% voted against gay marriage in 2000, only 52% voted against it in 2008. The tide turns, but slowly. I can only hope--four, eight, twelve years from now--that enough bigots have died off so that ALL Americans can be treated equally.

I learned that mobilize the vote campaigns can have unexpected consequences. The democrats did an incredible job of getting people who would never otherwise vote to the polls yesterday. That resulted in a resounding victory for Barack Obama. What else did it do? (NOTE: This is what you would call a "well-researched" opinion. It's just my opinion)

1.) People who came specifically to vote for Obama ended up voting on everything. For the twelve initiatives on California's ballot, that meant a lot of people voted based on the title alone (ie with no prior knowledge of the possible consequences). That led to the passage of 1A, 3, and 12, and probably to the failure of 7 and 10.

2.) African-American and Hispanic voters turned out en masse to vote Obama. African-American and Hispanic voters are predominantly fundamentalist Christian and decided to vote yes on 8 while they were there.

3.) Young voters (under 21 way up; 21-35 a little up) turned out en masse to vote Obama. They went ahead and voted no on 4 and yes on 2. *#$! uninformed youth.

4.) Democrats out to vote for Obama voted party line on Congressional and state assembly races radically shifting the balance of power toward the Democratic party.

I learned that animals apparently now have more rights than humans.

I learned that religion is tearing America and its people apart, the same can be said for the rest of the world.

I THOUGHT religious freedom was on the VERY FIRST AMENDMENT of the Bill of Rights for a good reason, to offer something no country had done before. It's probably one of the reasons our ancestors came to America, their country probably didn't have that. Now, America is turning itself into a country similar to the ones our ancestors left.

I learned that America is slowly becoming a Christian theocracy.

I learned that "one nation under god" is VERY VERY divisible....

But fortunately, I've also learned that Obama is the yang to all this yin.

but i also learned that i dont care about them either!

i learned that not all my fellow americans are scared of change, just 54% of californians are.

i learned that 54% of californians opinions matter to someone...just not to me!

and most importantly...i learned this..."YES WE CAN!!!!"

Today I learned there are bigots in my neighborhood who claim to be christian. Not exactly Christ-like to shun homosexuals; yet another reason for me to turn further away from organized religion. Maybe I'll start practicing Santeria-based Catholicism......
