So I'm not much of a football person, but being in the SJSU guard is definitely making me start to actually like it! And BTW, we basically killed SDSU last night! WOOHOO!

Yes, yes. USC is doing very nicely recently. I see tees and caps at my school every day. Funny, I don't remember seeing any in the 90's. One thing I can't stand about L.A. is how the fans come out of the woodwork to extol whoever is winning. It's Bandwagontown, USA. I remember seeing a poll when the Chicago Bulls were winning that listed them ahead of the Lakers in L.A. popularity. I wonder where all those Bulls fans are now? I beat they were rooting for the Lakers last year...after the All-Star break of course, when they started climbing.

Amazing stat of the day...

Rick Neuheisel was hired to bring UCLA even with USC in college football. And he has, in a way. By losing 59-0, Neuheisel’s Bruins have now lost their games by the same amount as Carroll’s Trojans during his entire tenure at USC. The Trojans are 78-14 since Pete took over in 2001, and they have lost those 14 games by a combined 59 points. UCLA is now 1-1 under Neuheisel, and lost that one game by 59 points. Amazing.

This might be a football thread, but most of us here wouldn't have anything to do with football if we didn't play in the band. How many football games have you gone to when half the fans leave after the band leaves the field?

It's sad here in Asia because we never get to see the half time shows on the football games on ESPN. I didn't even see the Rose Bowl halftime.

Uh, zero. That might be the case with some high schools, but it my high school was not a field show powerhouse, and I can't say I've noticed it at any of the college games I've been to.

I thought about doing the NFL football pool thread, just for something to do, except that I don't care much about the NFL. My teams were the Raiders and Rams...they moved away, since then it just doesn't matter to me.

Just to float an idea, what about a college football pool? It would have to start next season, of course. I've been knocking around ways to do it. We could just do the teams in the top 15, 25, or whatever, that week. Point spreads would obviously have to be taken in to account, due to the large number of gimmie games played. I could post the games and the spreads on Monday and everyone could give their picks by Thursday.

Thoughts?

I'm not trying to step on Hostrauser's toes, by the way, who did a great job with the Bowl Pool last year. I'm looking forward to that!

No problem. If you want to run an NCAA regular season pool, go right ahead. Make sure you know what you're getting into: it's more work than it looks. I'd set aside at least a few hours each week.

Actually I was into football long before I was into marching band, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the same for a lot of people. My whole childhood was solely devoted to sports...specifically basketball and football. In fact when I was young my goal was to play in the NBA, but then I only grew to 5'6" and that makes it a difficult goal to pursue lol.

Same here. I was raised on football and baseball. I only grew to about 5'8"-5'9", and slow. I had really good hands, though, and was a killer receiver in flag football (and a pretty good 2nd baseman in baseball). I didn't take up music until junior high.

Heh. I wanted to be in the NBA too, but at the time, Asians in the NBA was a laughable matter. It was a time when the coolest Asian athlete around was Michael Chang and I took up tennis. Even at 6 feet, I'm just not coordinated enough for sports. No matter how hard I try at baseball, I can't throw a ball very well, though 1st base wasn't too bad.

And Oregon State shuts out USC in the first half, who would've thought that would happen?
