Even though it's midnight and therefore no longer your birfday, I feel obligated to sing:
Happy birfday to you
Happy birfday to you
Happy birfday dear ... whatever your name is?
Happy birfday to you!

By the way, UCI-Mike, what steps do you take to get a permit? Is driving school required??

Well, I'm not UCI-Mike, but maybe I can help you by answering your question. A certain amount of hours of driving school is required. When you register at the DMV, you pay a fee of twelve bucks. You get three chances to take the written test and driving test. If you somehow fail one of these tests three times, you have to pay the twelve dollar fee again. :x Anyways, then you get to take the written test. You can get no more than 8 wrong on the test to pass. Then you have your permit! :D But that permit isn't valid until you take your first behind-the-wheel lesson. :? And remember, you have to be sixteen and have to had your permit for at least 6 months to take the driving test.

Oh yeah, don't let your permit expire on you. It's only valid for a year, starting when you get the permit. If it expires on you, you'll have to pay again, take the written test, wait six months, blah blah blah. This happened to a few of my friends.

They should explain all of this again in driving school, and in much greater detail. Hope this helps you! Now go to driving school! 8-)

its gonna be my bday when school starts on the 28th. i'll be 17 and a senior. i WONT have my lisence and i WONT have a permit. i havent made time to start drivers ed. and i prolly wont bother taking classes to get my permit anymore. becuase i'm sure that by the time i am allowed to take my drivers lisence test, i will be approaching my 18th birthday. and i heard that once you turn 18 you can right away take your test regardless of whether or not you have a permit. so whats the point of me wasting money in classes if i dont need to take them... :? i still wanna drive. imma hafta bum rides to school from my brother or friends. crap...

Thanks a lot, MC. I just hope I don't have a zero period so I can take the class at school. **crosses fingers**

You could consider taking the drivers ed classes outside of school. It'll be faster, but of course you'd have to pay for them...

Where I took them, you got a discount from taking the classroom and behind the wheel from the same place, so maybe you could see if any places around you offer that.

That was long ago for me. I'm at the point in my driving career where I'm taking traffic school cuz I got a speeding ticket.
