Actually, when I had my braces on, there were a few times when gum got stuck in my braces. My advice is to not risk damaging your braces, and try to stay as far away from gum as possible!

Also, do not eat chips, ar drink soda. Because of these, when I had braces, I had to have four brackets replaced. I just never learned my lesson...hehe...

You couldn't have chips? That's pretty sad...
I guess everyone has different problems with their braces.

I've never had braces but did see an orthodontist a couple of times just to see if I needed them.

When I got braces, I got them at an akward time...right at the beginning of the year. So when you try to talk to your new teachers and stuff, you can't because you just got braces and if you talk, you end up drooling.
My orthodontist is a really nice guy, but it is his assitant that did alot of the actual brace work. He'd change the wires and stuff, but she put them on, took them off, etc etc.
I also had them for 6 months longer than planned. That was upsetting...

I had mine my fresh. year, and had to play with a 12c mouthpiece. Then I got them off, and had to switch to a 6 1/2 al, and that sucked. But, I eventually got over it.

braces really screw people over especially for us brass players! i couldnt play our tuning note and barely a G in the staff and i got my braces a week before a concert (in middle school)
i only know 1 person who got BETTER with braces on the trumpet. well actually it made him play notes higher... but u should look at his umbershure back then now it's better

its pretty sad for brass players
a lot of ppl get their umbershures messed up so they suck wen they start playing

6 years! i had those freakish braces for 6 years!
i had braces before i started ever playing in band and was extremely scared to take them off last year. i could just imagine myself unable to play-- i had my orhtodontist leave them on for an extra 2 weeks until after our concert. but luckily having them gone didn't make too much of a difference.

I had braces for
7 years!!!!!
When i got them off this summer everyone told me that they knew something was different, but couldnt figure out what it was. The entire time that I have lived in Livermore i have had braces, so i guess it was quite a shock for them!!
I am constantly smiling now!!!

I had that device for 8 months I think. I didn't mind it after awhile... I was able to talk eventually, and eat properly. Then it was hardly anything at all until they took it off.
I had the dents in my gums for a week because it had been on for so long. And I had to relearn how to talk, eat, etc etc.
