Winston Churchill Quotes

Post by crfrey71 » Wed Apr 16, 2008 9:30 am

I was making sure I had the famous tax quote by Winston Churchill correct, when I came upon all kinds of quotes made by him and they are a real joy to read some of them. If you thought Ronald Reagan had some nice quotes, Winston was the master of it.

Here are a few that I really like:

"There is no such thing as public opinion. There is only published opinion."

Man, that sure applies to our media these days with all these stupid polls they conduct and publish.

"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."

I really love this next one,

" A politician needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn't happen."

"A prisoner of war is a man who tries to kill you and fails, and then asks you not to kill him."

"If you're going through hell, keep going."

Love this one, as well,

" You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."

Check them out! 8-)

The Politics quotes

Post by crfrey71 » Wed Apr 16, 2008 9:34 am

Wow! I think these are really awesome...the ones about politics:

"Politics are very much like war. We may even have to use poison gas at times. "

" Politics is almost as exciting as war, and quite as dangerous. In war you can only be killed once, but in politics many times."

Some reagan quotes about government

Post by crfrey71 » Wed Apr 16, 2008 10:48 am

Since I am the OP of this topic and I had mentioned that Winston was the master of quotes and Reagan was quite good at it, as well, here are some good ones from Reagan about government.

"Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives. "

This one is just so awesome and yet, so true:

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

"Man is not free unless government is limited."

"No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! "

Some others,

"I have wondered at times what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the US Congress. "

"If the federal government had been around when the Creator was putting His hand to this state, Indiana wouldn't be here. It'd still be waiting for an environmental impact statement. "

"One picture is worth 1,000 denials. "

"Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you disgrace yourself you can always write a book. "

"Recession is when a neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours. "

How could I forget this one?

"The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help. "

Again, so very true.

Lol that one made me laugh the hardest. (Then again after reading all these in one sitting yea it kinda gets funnier every time).

Reminds me of the "Trust me, I'm a lawyer" saying.

Also Hostrauser...lol! That one also made me laugh harder than the rest. Scissors beats paper

Haha great quotes guys.
