They are cheaper. They're called Volkswagons.

If you are an educator, or work for a school as a designer; you can probably get the Pyware software at the Academic price that they offer. There are cheaper drill designing software programs out there--and you get what you pay for, I will leave it at that...

It's kinda the same as the Adobe programs. It'll cost you a fat chunk of change to get Photoshop, but that's because of the inordinate amount of time and energy invested into developing the software, and also because of the almost endless number of things you can do with Photoshop.

I'm assuming the Pyware situation is pretty similar...

But like a lot of software out there, it's pretty easy to download programs like Adobe Photoshop for free.

You will not get the fully functioning program. You will be limited to what you can do with the Adobe and Photoshop that you download from their website. Unless you purchase a registration key, you will be restricted to certain functions you can use. Just as you are with the Pyware demo versions.

And that is the reason why we pay so much for software. The same for sheet music. The more you pirate, or copy sheet music and distribute it (for non educational use), the more it will cost us in the long run. The thing is, when you "find a way around" buying a software program, it usually has bugs in it--so it will not operate correctly. Just buy the program, it will be yours, and you can register it and get free updates, that you may not be able to if you download it from a p2p program.

This thread, or the suggested illegal part should be deleted. Encouraging people to break the law is not the best of ideas.

It was mainly just a little rant... but thanks for the clarification regardless.

Yeah, its like Finale. $250 @ "academic discount!" and then they want over $100 a year for "updates!"

I guess thats what happens when you have a small company writing small programs for a small amount of people. Kind of like Apple!

And don't even get me started on Sibelius...

Let's see, Mercedes (small company) building small cars (SL's) for a small number of people (like me). This is OK! 8-) (It's a good thing that I married rich)
