What's with the British spelling of favourite? I work in an institution based in Singapore. The students in it get their credits through a school in Australia. Our books are written with non-American spellings, yet, because of my accent, they expect me to use American spellings. Believe it or not, they are NOT discouraged. Most Americans who try to use non-American spellings don't go all the way...

Brits don't use the term, "right away" (for immediately). They say "straightaway..."

Two weeks isn't two weeks... it's a fortnight.

You don't "call" someone on the phone, you "ring" him. (To call someone is to visit a person--we use the term for "house call.")

If you tell a Brit you are wearing new "vest and pants," you will have to show your underwear (vest = undershirt/pants = underpants).

Cars (motorcars) don't have hoods, trunks, windshields, or tires. They have bonnets, boots, windscreens, and tyres.

Girls don't wear "panties." They wear "knickers."

If you go to a friend's hotel room, and she is still asleep, you will "knock her up" (knock on the door to wake her up).

:rotf:

It's a whole different language, which is often taken the wrong way by both sides.

:D Any video featuring our lame duck President George W. Bush! There was a video taken from Jimmy Kimmel "Live" which showed George W. speaking from the Oval Office regarding illegal immigrants and the lack of boarder controls. As he speaks, what appears to be a group of illegal immigrants come up behind him and look into the Oval office through a window then run off ! Pretty hilarious stuff ! George W. that is, not the issue of illegal immigration.

My friends were talking about this on youtube and when I saw it I was first disgusted, then it became interesting. SALAD FINGERS. You have to read the bio on this guy too. It's a series of 7, I think.

Converting YouTube videos to downloadable files

This is an interesting, if not useful website: http://vixy.net/
This free service allows you to convert a Flash Video / FLV file (YouTube's videos, etc) to MPEG4 (AVI/MOV/MP4/MP3/3GP) file online. When you submit a URL, it will download and convert to the video format. Then you can download the converted file. I think this comes in pretty handy when there is a particular marching band performance posted on YouTube that you wouldn't mind also having on your iPod.

A useful post? On a thread only a few months old? You're losing your touch, MID.

I will have to look into that vixy site...
