I saw the new broadwy musical, The Producers, by Mel Brooks, last night. I thought that it was friggin' hilarious. I was just wondering if anyone else had seen it, and what they thought of it. If you haven't, it is starring Jason Alexander and Martin Short, and is playing at the Pantagis Theatre in Hollywood through January 2004. I would recommend it to anyone...Although, it was a little racy...

i think that Mel Brooks really like the race jokes if thats what you mean. He made some real funny flicks with nazis and stuff and they are really funny too.

That, and if you do not appreciate gay humor, than you probably will also not like the musical.

Please keep in mind that LONG before it was a musical, The Producers was one of Mel Brooks' first movies. It was originally written WAY back in the 60s, and the movie came out in 1968 (great movie, too, if you haven't seen it).

Point being, that race humor and gay humor didn't raise as many eyebrows back then as it does now. Not that Brooks has ever shied away from any joke he deemed funny.

I knew that it was a movie first, but I never took into consideration when it was written. You have a good point, but man was it still a great musical. And, your right about Brooks. He has never been afraid to really do or say what he wants, and he has some, if not, the funniest movies ever created. Young Frankenstein, History of the World: Part One, Spaceballs. The man is a comic mastermind.
