Disney's new Concepts

Post by Fluba » Fri Jan 26, 2007 12:06 am

Well, Disney let the annual report out already this year. Seems there is a lot of interesting stuff in concept art from them. Looks like some park is going to be getting a Carland, themed to the movie Cars. Also a new water show to be going in somewhere. Both seem to fit into DCA, which is in need of some new stuff to get people to want to go there.

Now, these are for the whole Disney parks system. Some of these have got to be for CA. Also keep in mind that the new Hong Knog DL is prolly getting one of the rides pictured, most likely the pirate ride. Some neat stuff is shown in the art though. I know Im keeping my fingers crossed on some of these things.

Theme Park Review, where the rest of the art can be viewed and their theories read.

So, what do you guys think of all this stuff that Disney announced. I would love some it personally. And it would be nice as it could provide me with somewhere to transfer to if Autopia gets boring for me. But that is a ways off from now.

Ive heard a different ride idea at work. My trainer said they have something planned for the rocket rod track. however, if they were to ever do anything to the track, the would need to tear sections of it out to rebuild it so that it wont tear its self apart again. Thats one of the reasons the ride closed in the first place.

I was there once when it just opened and every hour you would see the ride stop and people would be walking along the track to get down... of course the line was like 1.5 hours long...

Reasons I can think of right now include but, are not limited to...
- the track was not banked so cars had to slow way down
- the track was the people mover track so it was not build to withstand the strain of high speeds
- the tires had to be replaced on average once a week due to high speeds
- the ecm's (onboard car computer) kept breaking down
- the breakdowns caused ridiculous lines so Disney had to give out a ton of free days in the park

- anyone else?

Disney Cruise Line plans big expansion

Disney Cruise Line plans big expansion

The small but successful Disney Cruise Line today ordered two massive new ships in a move that will more than double its passenger capacity.

Disney CEO Bob Iger says the company has contracted with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, to build the 2,500-passenger vessels, scheduled to launch in 2011 and 2012. At 122,000 tons, the ships will be nearly 50% larger than the line's two existing 1,750-passenger ships, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

"Disney Cruise Line has been a huge success for our guests and for our shareholders alike," Iger said in a statement that accompanied the annoucement. "It has brought our unparalleled family vacation experience to the high seas, and has also generated high margins and double digit returns on invested capital. We’re excited to announce the expansion of our fleet, which is a logical next step in what is a real growth business for us."

Disney played a critical role in creating the family market within the cruise industry when it debuted its first two ships in 1998 and 1999, but it never followed up with additional vessels. Those early ships were purpose built for families and boasted such innovative features as an entire deck dedicated to children's activities and an adults-only entertainment area for parents who wanted some alone time.

Disney says that like its current ships, the as-yet-unnamed newcomers will be a modern interpretation of classic ocean liners of the 1930s. But the company is mum on specifics for the design and itineraries.

The nine-year-old line initially only offered trips in the Caribbean but has recently begun branching out. This summer it'll offer its first cruises in Europe aboard the Disney Magic. Disney has said the European trips have sold faster and at higher prices than its Caribbean offerings, a sign that there is strong demand for additional itineraries.

I TOTALLY remember going to that when my family visited Disneyworld WAY back in 1995, I was 9 years old at the time. I actually thought it was really freaking cool. I'd completely forgotten about until you posted that.

Extension of the Parks

Using the Travel Channel as a source, the Disney company conveys their cruise ships as an extension of the theme park experience. It's true! Though I would miss the casinos found on other major cruiselines. Hey you're in San Diego, there are tons of cruises that embark there, I'm so jealous.
