Favorite Runners-Up
You know, I was thinking the other day about drum corps (which has become a regular habit for me) and I got a thought in my head. There have been some awesome drum corps performances over the years, and a lot of them have gone on to win Championships. But what about the runners-up?
Obviously, there are numerous corps who get 2nd place (even 3rd and 4th's) that have awesome shows, some that are talked about years later...
The most obvious one that comes to my mind (and I assume others') is Star Of Indiana's 1993 show. One of the greatest shows ever performed (by one of the greatest drum corps to ever march) and they lost by a hair.
I've also thought about some of my other favorite runners-up: 1989 Phantom Regiment with "New World Symphony", what an amazing sound that show had...and the superb technicality of Santa Clara Vanguard's 1998 show, "Copeland: The Modernist". Heck, most of SCV's 2nd place shows have been what one would call "hella-tight".
Oh yeah, anyway...what are some of your favorite shows that have missed 1st by a smidge? (Feel free to include 3rd place performances too if you like, if you really think they lost out barely too).

duh, I keep mentioning this year...cause it just sticks out like a sore thumb (overused cliche but anyhow...).
1987 SCV. Undefeated...untouched all year until finals week where they lost thier only two shows of the year...finals by just 0.1
Still yet...extremely powerful show.
Others that stick out...
84 SCV (probably one of the tightest company fronts EVER.)
88 SCV-Brutal start to the year (they actually wore capes at the first show)...only to perform the heck out of Phantom of the Opera.
89 Phantom-Now if thier was one year where a tie could be validated...this would be it.
Hmm...I want to say 78 Phantom as well...if I can recall...They were very close to SCV in Denver that year...Another great corps.
Guess that's it for now...

Here's another one of my favorites which, although was 3rd, could've been second due to the tie for first: 1996 Cadets. Man, I love this show. Well, I'm already a fan of Copeland's music (Rodeo, Red Pony), but they performed the heck out of this show. Love the spot in Rodeo where they march in the serpentine near the end while double-tonguing like mad. Great, great show.
And you're right about SCV '87 Clusknay--another great show that just lost by a hair.

I'd have to say just 2000 BD for me, but I agree with the top 5 from 1995. Especially BD 95.euphman wrote:00-02 BD

I also like 97 SCV.
