Okay i was talking to an instructor of mine the other day and he mentioned a corp called Star of Indiana. He said they had the best lines EVER. They supposidly had a horn line playing 16th noted for most the show, and a slawless snare line. I do not know anything about this corps and i want 2! What year did tey start, what year was there best show, what ever happened to them ect...

Their first competitive year was 1985. Their best year is a matter of opinion. But they did win in 1991. So I guess technically that was their best year. After the 1993 season they pulled out of DCI and did a brass theatre for some years and then put out Blast! in 1999 in England. Since then they have brought that over to the states and have started Shockwave and Cyberjam.

Star of Indiana has been considered one of the most revolutionary corps in DCI, mostly because of their early 90's productions, especially 1993. They had a different uniform every year of existence (except between 87/88). Some people say that Star's 1993 drumline has been the best drumline in DCI history...ever. Its such an amazing show, they were such an amazing corps. Many people hated Star of Indiana because they were met with so much success so fast and were even "boo-ed" off the field at one show. Star of Indiana was started by a millionaire named Bill Cook, and many people believe that he "bought" Star's success because he hired many famous instructors and donated a lot to DCI. I'd have to say their best productions are 89, 91, and 93 ultimatly.

Just watch 1993, nobody was doing what they did at the time, especially body movement. Star of Indiana changed drum corps.

Star burned briefly, but bright. They accomplished an awful lot in less than a decade. I feel their best shows are 1990, 1991, and 1993. I consider their 1993 show the 2nd best show in DCI history.

Definitely one of the greatest corps of all time. If they were still around today, who knows how much more they could have accomplished in DCI. There may never be another corps like Star.

Eh, I don't think so many people were Star-haters. There probably was jealousy, but not necessarily hate. The booing off the field, from what I've heard, had to do more with what they played, which happened to be their '93 repertoire. People couldn't make a connection to it. As time went on, people have listened to that show again and have had better thoughts.

Gotta' love Star's '86 show, though, with 18 contras in the "Close Encounters" number.

I dunno, though: the booing started in 1992, when Star played a patriotic show! A lot of people felt (quite wrongly) that Star had "bought" the 1991 title, without stopping to consider what a remarkable level of performance that show had. Jim Mason and company were a little surprised at the chilly reception the 1992 show received, and that LED to the creation of the 1993 show. Their thoughts being, basically, "well, if some people aren't going to like us no matter what we do, then we'll just do whatever we feel like without concern for the audience." It was that act of "turning their back" on the audience that led to one of the greatest and most revolutionary shows in DCI history: Star of Indiana, 1993, the music of Barber and Bartok.
