IYAO OPEN HOUSE A SUCCESS by Mike Nash
BUENA PARK, CA — November 24, 2002 - The Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps opened their doors to over 150 prospective members this past Sunday for its Open House 2003. Three drum corps were represented, including the flagship Impulse Junior Drum and Bugle Corps. There was also a presentation about Mystikal, the new feeder corps being launched this year. The over-22 crowd heard about the latest from SoCal Dream, California's newest senior corps as they embark on their inaugural competitive season.

The day culminated with a mass choir of nearly 70 brass players, as well as a sizzling performance from So Cal Dream, featuring their 2003 opener Mambo Caliente. You can view that performance by clicking here. See related article below.

With an ambitious show production entitled: “Pure Imagination – A Musical Journey through Wonka”, and featuring music from the movie musical Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, Impulse is sure to offer one of this summer's most interpretive and exciting programs in drum corps.

IMPULSE SOUVENIRS NOW ONLINE
It might sound like some shameless plug, but Impulse has a new online site where you can get all new Impulse gear. What makes our new site different is two things: exclusive Impulse gear that's not available anywhere else; and they offer a variety of payment options, including credit card or PayPal. By the way, you can also use PayPal to help sponsor your favorite Impulse member for 2003 tour. That's another terrific gift idea, just ask anyone who has ever marched! See our website for details.

MYSTIKAL CORPS UPDATE
IYAO's newest drum corps is finalizing musical ideas for its premier season. "Our concept is leaning towards traditional drum corps-style jazz, with a some "impulsive" musical surprises," says Charles Hargett, Mystikal's brass caption head. "Rob and I traded a list of songs back and forth and found that we liked lots of the same musical ideas." Next year's show promises to be rhythmic and challenging, yet accessible to both the performer and listener.

Mystikal is close to announcing its show for 2003. Confirmed musical plans include a high-velocity drum intro into Stan Kenton's Taboo, followed Quincy Jones' Big Band version of One Note Samba. There are still some surprises in store, so keep watching. Mystikal will be recruiting and accepting members throughout the spring. For more information, contact Director Rob Lowery.
