THE ACADEMY - "Left of Spring: Stravinsky Revisited"
-- The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky
-- Epilogue from "Spring Awakening" by Duncan Sheik
-- The Song of Purple Summer from "Spring Awakening" by Duncan Sheik

"Following the basic story line of the ballet, pagan rituals and images have been re-imagined to create a modern urban tribe. From the birth of the urban tribe, to the celebration of new life and the arrival of spring, the passionate ritual that sparks a riot, and finally the death and sacrifice of the chosen one."

From a Blue Knights alumni newsletter:

We are playing the music of Igor Stravinsky... specifically the legendary ballet "The Firebird". Keeping with our intention of playing music that is memorable, we plan on having a POWERFUL presentation of the Firebird with a unique twist... we will feature a sci-fi take on the music featuring otherworldly beings and their ultimate quest for community.

LOL wut. I mean, it sounds interesting and I'll be looking forward to seeing it, but... what?

Phantom Regiment 2012: "Turandot"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S5juX9y0vs

Very interesting. Quite a bit different from the Phantom sound we got used to hearing with J.D. Shaw at the helm. Kinda reminds me of Vanguard's "Ballet for Martha" 2009 show in terms of arranging style and the approach they took to the show.

Blue Knights "Avian" run-through (6/9/12)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOYWJjw90is

Check out the brass at 5:50.

Don't know how far up the ladder it will climb, but definitely pulling for BK this year. I like what I see and hear so far.
