Corps' progress?
I hear Blue Devils are absurd...again. Sounds like the boys in blue are pretty fired up about their season.
I also hear SCV is making strides with their show. Also moving in the right direction, etc.
I've also heard Pacific Crest is having a really strong start to their pre-season.
Anybody hearing anything from drum corps land?

Re: Corps' progress?
But then, hope springs eternal. Don't we hear much the same every year at this time? In the fifteen-plus years I've been following drum corps, I can only remember one instance where people were saying before the season, "oh, I'm not too sure about the corps this year; might be a rough season."
I'm not saying this as a criticism. It is what it is. And certainly I would hope the performers and staff are way amped up at the start of the season.
What I've heard from the rumor mill:
Holy Name Cadets: George & Co. seem much more focused on letting the show be the best it can be as opposed to trying to shoehorn in new ideas and concepts. Hence the dropping of the overall Bernstein theme and just going with West Side Story. I expect they'll be better than last year.
The Cavaliers: Heard very little. The last couple of years I feel they've had a bit of stagnation from a design standpoint. Splooie fans might argue, but I think Jeff Fiedler felt the same way. In any case, I don't see them placing higher than 3rd.
Phantom: Heard very little, much like last year. Solid core of vets returning. Staff is real pleased with the new horns. Expect another killer musical book.
Crown: "They have that look in their eye." I've heard the design staff has been extremely aggressive with this years' show and they are really gunning for the Top 3. Expect a high-risk, high-reward program.
