So much to say...so little space to pontificate. I will say this. I'm all about "smart" business moves.

I just hope this was smart.

It seems their hearts are in the right place. Given a choice of folding or a temporary merger, this is probably the right decision. Keep all the Thunder kids together instead of having them fragment around the country, or not march at all, is more likely to promote re-emergence for 2010.

Unfortunately, most mergers just put off the inevitable. There have been some successful ones, of course, but the majority only eliminates at least one of the corps, and often just extends the life of the merged corps for a couple of seasons.

From what I've read, having both corps under one umbrella will concentrate the efforts of both corps for future success. In some ways you could compare it to the Blue Devils or Santa Clara Vanguard organizations with multiple corps in different classes. Should Thunder re-emerge, Cascades remain the World Class corps while Thunder rejoins Open Class.

The potential is there for success in both classes providing they are serious and work hard to bring Thunder back to the field.

Crossing my fingers Garry--the PACNW has/had great potential with Thunder and Cascades...and Cru to the south.

Long live the Spartans and Marauders and Imperials and Black Watch!!!
