Year in, year out: the Blue Devils and Cadets. The Cavaliers guard is good, but overrated. No way they should've scored as high as they did in 2002.

Phantom Regiment and Carolina Crown also have really strong guards this year.

I also feel that Cavaliers colorguard is SOOOOOOOO OVERATED! I do like that they are masculine in there work! But Blue Devils have the best guard overall! i mean they actually dance extremely well and use alot of really great movement (FOSEE) that enhance there shows tremendously! not to mention there weapon abilities!

Yeah, do you think they really earned that 99.15 as an ensemble? I thought they were a tad overscored.

Well, let's see here...

ACTUAL JUDGES:
Visual GE: 20.0 --- Music GE: 19.9 --- TOTAL GE: 39.90
Performance: 19.8 --- Ensemble: 19.7 --- Guard: 20.0 --- TOTAL VISUAL: 29.75
Brass: 19.7 --- Ensemble: 20.0 --- Percussion: 19.3 --- TOTAL MUSIC: 29.50
TOTAL SCORE: 99.15

PHANTOM'S THOUGHTS:

Visual GE: 20.0 --- Music GE: 19.7 --- TOTAL GE: 39.70
Performance: 19.9 --- Ensemble: 19.9 --- Guard: 19.6 --- TOTAL VISUAL: 29.70
Brass: 19.9 --- Ensemble: 19.9 --- Percussion: 19.2 --- TOTAL MUSIC: 29.50
TOTAL SCORE: 98.90

So, no, not quite, but they were damn close. Reasons FOR the high score: it's by far the best visual design and execution I've ever seen, and the brass line (normally a Cavalier weakness) was simply amazing. Reasons AGAINST the high score: guard wasn't as good as their score indicated, and the percussion wasn't as clean as you would expect from the Cavaliers (listen closely to that snare line solo in the last movement, "Rhythm"; sounds a little phlegmy to me).

I *DO* think it is one of the Top 10 (probably even Top 5) shows of all time. But the VERY BEST? Nah. That title's still held by the 1994 Blue Devils... followed by the 1993 Star of Indiana, 1989 Phantom Regiment, and 1999 Santa Clara Vanguard... those are the top 4... I'd say fifth place is a fight between 2002 Cavaliers and 2000 Cadets.

i think all caps makes you sound like YOU ARE SHOUTING

Back to the topic at hand. Esperanza always has great guards mainly cuz they're in the same umbrella organization with Esperanza de Luz.

I love Blue Devils guard....they are really entertaining. I don't know all the technical stuff, but Blue Devils seems to be exteremely clean and have great rifle work.
