Wow, it sounds like you're reading from my review of the Pacific Procession in Hayward a week or two back. :)

I agree with just about everything you're saying...

hehe, cool.. I'm new to the board and didn't get to read your review, but you know what they say, great minds think alike. ;)

I think it's pretty exciting how so many corps are doing so well this year. The competition in all of div1, not just the top 12, is starting to get pretty intense.

What do you think all the other corps are doing all Summer? Every day, practice practice practice. Then a show in the evening, then you hop on the bus and drive to the next town. Rinse, repeat.

Pacific Crest has approximately 30 days to practice and clean. No less, no more than anyone else.

i know what the other corps are doing all summer, i never said they werent. but pacific crest has more days and time to practice than the other corps. on the days that other corps have a competition, they dont have much time to practice. on the other hand, pacific crest doesnt have many competitions so they really do have much more time to put in for practice and fixing things. you dont have to give me a countdown till championships, i know thank you very much. but just because every corps has the same amount of time until championships, it doesnt mean they can all use that time for practice. you said yourself that the corps are on tour driving from place to place, and that takes up a lot of time. time in which pacific crest could use to their advantage for practice. but, was that all you really read of my reply earlier?

tyler kid, you're either mistaken, or just don't know any better.

PC still rehearses on a part time basis. I don't remember how it goes, but it's something like 4 hours on Monday evening, and all day weekends. In div1, even on show days we got in about 6 hours of practice. Bus time usually counted towards our 8 hours of sleep. Two or three days out of the week we wouldn't perform, and that would be about 13 hours of rehearsal, unless we went on and did silent visual rehearsal after the sound curfew. -- PC definitely doesn't have more time to clean than other corps.

and, like you pointed out in your earlier post, they're at a disadvantage when they practice because they won't have critiques, and they won't be able to see how their show is faring compared to other corps in their level.

:hum: This site is dedicated to encouraging our units.. we try to refrain from silly and simplistic and annoying flames....
You sign your postings as Rookie... Give it some time.. invest your energies in marching with a corps.. and making some unit better than they were when you arrived...
Keep on posting.. But I will tell you that many people across this whole country are familiar with Pacific Crest and their reputation for being hardworking and potential champion.... We have to admire their industriousness and the success of their program

I should keep an eye out on this section more. I didn't expect this section to turn into RAMD.

Lay off PC bud. Everyone out there is giving their all.

Tyler!

lol! They're not a lost cause, no one has said that. I know I defomotely never said that.* Realize this, there's no shame if they don't make finals, especially not in a year when the competition is as tight as this. As for not taking advantage of their time: PC makes the most out of their time. They've found a healthy balance where they can give their members a good drum corps experience, while letting them live "real" life during the summer as well -- and it's a wonderful thing, because a lot of so cal people would never have been able to march because of time restraints otherwise. No other part time corps has been able to pull it off like they have.

But like Berish said, you know, you should try marching. And you should definitely keep posting.. It's cool to talk about things and to develop an informed opinion.

*blushes*

Again with the RAMD! I seem to have a way of inciting that comment wherever I go.

maybe i should have inserted [/sarcasm] and some rolling eyes

i like pc's show this year. i like a lot of drum corps. but what i dont get is why people have to shoot them down before giving them a real chance like any other corps. yes i know they work just as hard as any other corps. so why even keep or even start a topic to talk about how low you think they are going to get at championships. why cant people just be proud that california has 4 outstanding groups that are competing in div 1

What do you mean by "a real chance?" Are we not allowed to speculate at how the season MIGHT pan out? I've seen Pacific Crest this year. I've also seen every single DCI Finalist show of the past 15 years. Pacific Crest does not have a Finals caliber show. Not this year.

It's not meant as a slam on PC, it's not meant to discredit all the hard work they put in or to condemn them for all time (far from it: in fact, I think PC will make Finals within the next three years).

All it is is a simple, objective statement: I've seen Pacific Crest's 2003 show, and I can name at least 12 other 2003 corps that I think are better. That's it. I'm not trying to "shoot down Pacific Crest" just like I'm not trying to shoot down the Mandarins or Southwind (two other corps that I don't expect to make Finals).

lol, no! Say it ain't so..

hehe, I have a soft spot for Mandarins.. I really think they have it in them to be in the hunt for 12th. They barely practice more than PC, but once they hit the road for San Antonio and start practicing all day? I expect they'll clean up and sparkle brighter than a diamond in the spotlight. They're usually kinda dirty in the beginning, then really clean up when they leave for the championship tour.

I love their high brass book man, I cooked at a camp this spring and their staff were all like, "YOU! I expect to see you with a mellophone in your hands next block!" I was silly not to march there, this is a sweet show. Great hornline. Watch, in Orlando they'll sparkle like diamonds.

And PC will too. *tips hat to Tyler* :) lol, not that they don't already.. with those spinny box things..

..man, what am I still doing up?

my last reply wasnt directed to you but to the topic in general. i feel as if the name of the topic belittles pc directly. i did note the change from "worthy" to "ready," but still it doesnt seem right. now if this whole topic and discussion were to be called DCI World Championships Div 1 and the thoughts and opinions were to formulate around that, i probably wouldnt mind as much because there would be discussion about all corps instead of just one. there are what, around 23 corps competing in div 1 quarterfinals this year and the only major discussion has been around one of those. phantom you are very opinionated and sometimes i dont agree with you, but it is interesting to hear what you have to say. as for this topic, i think it should be pretty much over and done with

Sonya: I love the Mandarins show, and I think that if they had another 30-40 kids they would be a LOCK for Finals this year. As it is, I think they'll have a tough job making it into the Top 12. I think their best hope is to clean the bejeezus out of the show and hope their cleanliness of execution and general effect can carry them into the Top 12 (like it did for Boston in 1999).

Tyler: When you reply "to the topic" you are, in effect, replying to everyone. Now, if you would like to create a topic for discussion of ALL Division I corps, you are free to do so, but this topic is about Pacific Crest. Everyone's talking about that one corps because that is what the topic was set up to be about. I'm sorry if you don't like it, but you are, of course, free to either not participate in this thread and/or start up new threads to talk about other corps.

The reason no one has done that so far (I'm guessing) is because the majority of this board hails from California, particularly Southern California. There's certainly no doubt that the Blue Devils and Santa Clara Vanguard will make Finals, so everyone talks about Pacific Crest. There's not as big of a demand to talk about a corps like the Colts from Iowa or Southwind from Kentucky/Wisconsin.

Anyways, my point was supposed to be that over the course of several months here you will likely see SEVERAL threads you don't like, don't want to read, or that "don't seem right." The key is to not participate in those threads, and/or to start up new threads of your own, not to go into those threads and petition everyone to stop posting. Allow us to participate in the threads we want to participate in, and we shall, in turn, respond with the same courtesy. :D
