Not unless you were the kid in school who liked to eat paste and Elmer's glue...
How did you choose your instrument?

Haha. I always love this question when it comes up..
So, I'm an asian kid... I played piano for like... FOREVER (I think I started in kindergarten or something? and quit after 8th grade)..
I picked up flute in 5th grade when band started... and the reason?
The flute was shiny and silver, so I wanted to play it simply because it was shiny. Also, the flute players got to sit in the front and I wanted to sit in the front as well, so that's how I chose flute.

In 5th grade I started on trumpet because I thought it sounded really cool. In 6th grade I was in a middle school honor band and during sectionals the director suggested that I try euphonium in middle school. At first I refused because I thought trumpet was the greatest instrument ever and the only one for me. Finally I gave in about 2 weeks into 7th grade because there were no euphoniums. I fell in love instantly and have been playing it since 7th grade now. It is amazing and I love low brass!

Leave it to a trumpet player to assume that "I" is the same as "we all"BGRtumpet wrote:I think we all see the truth in thiseuphsrock wrote:In 5th grade I started on trumpet because I thought it sounded really cool. i started playing clarinet since 9th grade...in my high school almost everyone began their freshman year...played clarinet all four years and picked up bass clarinet starting my sophomore year. picked up bass drum for awhile...
my director made me pick clarinet...cause my "piano" fingers were perfect for it...i originally wanted to play alto...but bass clarinet was the best!

In 4th grade my best friend wanted to play Alto Sax, so I learned that
then Freshman year I tryed out for Jazz on Alto, but I wasn't actually going to be in it, just learn, but we needed a Tenor, so I switched to Tenor for Jazz.
THEN, a month after i learned Tenor my director decided, let's play a chart with a clarinet, bass clarinet, and flute part! So I learned Clarinet (even though by the time competition came, we only had me on clarinet and the lead alto on Violin! ) Oh well now I know another instrument

Violin, huh? Hell, let's break out the tuba and french horns while we're at it, haha!Cometcrater wrote:In 4th grade my best friend wanted to play Alto Sax, so I learned that

well, for me, it all started in 6th grade. unfortunately, i had the same "no band nerds" mentality of every ignorant little middle schooler, but i had to do some kind of art class, so i did choir. i got out of that after a week and i decided to embrace my band nerd side. i first wanted to do alto sax, but then i remembered that my cousin had a trumpet she used in high school, and i figured that this would be a good way to save money, so i decided to do that. to this day, i do not regret that decision.
you are not what you think you are. I am what you want to be.
