we're playing divirtimiento for band by him and it's pretty cool. i don't like it too much but it's alrite. not really my style i guess, but has some cool aspects of it.

I met him when I was in college. He didn't like to talk about his own music away from an educational environment. I also met Vaclav Nelhybel and Ron Nixon, both nice, unpretentious guys who wrote good music.

"Persichetti, Vincent, 1915–87, American composer, b. Philadelphia. Persichetti taught at the Philadelphia Conservatory and at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. His music is notable for polytonal combinations, contrapuntal density, and incisive rhythm."
We played Divertimento for Band and Masquerade for Band when I was in RB's Wind Ensemble. Interesting literature.

The first Persichetti piece I played was his Symphony #6 for Band, which we played in the All Southern California High School Honor Band back in the day...As a percussionist, I found his scoring to be challenging and fun at the same time.
