Does your school offer jazz band all year long or is it just during second semester? Is it an actual class or do you rehearse after school?

My school technically offers jazz band all year, but we don't start rehearsing until November or December. It does count as a class though. It gets kind of annoying when the counseling office doesn't understand the difference between concert band and stage band (which is what the counselors at my school call jazz ensemble). It's been the same for like twenty years, but they still forget which one is which.

It kind of sucks because we've been rehearsing for about two weeks and we have our first performance, albeit local, next week. We're playing about a dozen charts, none of which sound very good. But it's fun, so who cares.

Over here we have rehersals every tuesday, thursday, and friday starting on the first day of school. These start at 3:30 and go on untill 4:45. We spend the first semester trying out ieces for the set, then get really serious once marching bands over. In second semester, we reherse during third period(our school is on the block schedule, which means 4 periods a day) and that one goes on for an hour and 45 minuets.

It's a second semester class, seventh period, every single day after school. But we get class credit for graduation.

Jazz Band is an actual class and is part of the regular school day. We have it both semesters and rehearse after school before concerts and stuff...
