yea it was fun. we kinda had a whole so cal group going cuz everyone else was from the midwest/east coast.

i remember one day we had "mexican food" for a meal and i'll have to admit it was the worst mexican i have ever had in my life. they put nacho cheese in tacos...nasty

oh and we were the only groups that could dance during the "dance" we had... 8-)

Comps?

Post by Dune00z » Tue May 06, 2003 7:09 pm

I am from la mesa and play in the Helix Wind Symphony and i have never heard of actual competitions. We are a very good band who received U superiorors in both of our only festivles this year (Grossmont and Claremont). Is there comptetions or just festivles? I think our group could do well if we were placed into a "circuit" if there is any, I mean our school just received a grammy!

Mt. Carmel got a Grammy too...one of the top 3 in the nation according to them...

there really is no concert band "competition". to get into the National Concert Band Festival, your director has to send in tapes and applications which go under review.

Sure there is, just head North. ;)

The NCBA has concert AND jazz competitions at several Fall and Spring marching band reviews.

Yeah, I have heard mt. Carmel and they are an amazing group. They sound even better than last year even though they lost a lot of band members. If anyone deserves a grammy it is definitely them

You guys really don't get out of the south do you?

Doesn't anyone have an opinion about anyone in the north? I do! Chico High is doing really good this year. I hope I see them at festival.
LP/O Rocks!!!!!! Oh yes, we are, superior by far!!!!!

Q: How can you tell which kid on the playground is the child of a trombonist?

A: They don't know how to use the slide and can't swing.

Small Bands

:)
I remember the bands of La Puente under Richard Martinez. The work they did was always top notch. I would always use them as an example of fine musicianship and great fundimentals.
If you've ever seen the Marine Corps Band play then you really understand.
It is never QUANTITY but always QUALITY.

I believe Vista is returning to the Nat'l Concert Band Festival this weekend, and will be the only group from California going.

I'd love to see the band competitions in the North State but can't seem to find schedules, etc. We were involved with Chino high school band before moving
to Chico. Do they have band competitions up here like in the south? When/where?
