My wind ensemble is going to play "Russian Christmas Music" this year at SCSBOA regionals. Looking forward to it, it's an awesome song.

Definitely agree (loved playing ALL the keyboards for locomotive...8th grade man. insanity). I also love Rites of Tamburo (lotsa fun latin percussion) and Variations on a Korean Folk Song. Great pieces.

Well, I just had a chance to play a few Tichelli pieces, and Blue Shades is definitely a winner.

Normally I'm a fan of Ticheli, but I like that piece the least of all his pieces...

How were you able to play Gavorkna Fanfare without double-tonguing? You would not get away with 'breath-attacking' at my school, especially being a performer in the highest group.

LoL Gavorkna Fanfare is a fun piece. I enjoy almost all pieces by Ticheli. Vesuvius is a winner. I haven't played blue shades, but we have the music so I hope to play it next year. What else has he made.. Sundance is a good one.. Loch Lomond.. that one rocks.. Amazing Grace, Cajun Folk Songs, Shenandoah,

Robert W. Smith makes some awesome songs but all of them are rather easy.. Well I shouldn't say all, just the ones I've actually played. I have many favorites by Smith.. I just can't remember most of 'em. Rites of Tamburo was a fun one to play though.

I think Holst might be my favorite ATM. If I remember correctly, he wrote "First Suite for Concert Band in Eb" and "Second Suite for Concert Band in F". Those are two freaking awesome pieces. I think he also made the Planets suite.

I basically like any pieces that have moving tuba pieces. I grow very bored when I get handed a piece with 8 measure chunks of rest.. haha.
