These players still sound like college players. However, It's amazing that the music world is growing more accepting of female players.

The word is tubists. If you're old-fashioned, you can say, tubaists.

___________

Incidently, in the 1970s, when I was in high school Antelope Valley High School had a few years when all 6-10 of their tuba players were girls.

Carolyn Jantsch won the tuba position with Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra last week, becoming the first woman to do so (and possibly the youngest ever, at only age 21!!!)

Actually, the musical world accepts anyone who can play without making excuses, doesn't care what kind of music is played, and can show up to a gig when deathly ill.

We have a female tuba player but she does guard during marching season. Last year we had a piano player who played in Wind Ensemble and also played tuba.
