I'm stuck between 2 choices for next year: Wind Ensemble or Jazz Ensemble. This year, I'm in both. Next year, I won't be able to, and I don't know which one to choose. Help!

I would quit the other thing that is stopping you from doing both (unless it is another band thing), but that is me...

Otherwise, I would probably go with jazz. But then again that depends on the charts that your band plays. If you playing stuff like Salt Peanuts, In The Mood, Sedunga, Birdland, and other crazy awesome charts then I would go with Jazz. But I am biased towards Jazz sooo...

You also should take into consideration the same thing as above with Wind Ensemble. To me wind ensemble implies that it is the higher level band so therefore they would be playing higher level pieces. That's a good thing. But overall it just comes down to personal preferences. Take a piece of paper and wirte down all of the good (or bad) things about both (for you) then choose based on that. But that still may not do it for you...

I like jazz. If it were me, I would pick Jazz...

Which group do you enjoy playing with more? I say go with whatever makes you happy.

I always enjoyed playing in the wind ensemble because I had a great time playing awesome music and being surrounded by so much amazing individual talent. Depending on our school workload, we also had the option to try out for Symphony Orchestra and/or play in the pit for a musical if the drama department was doing one that semester.

well you are a bari sax playa so I would stick with jazz band... but that's juss cuz of your instrument. its really: classical v. jazz

and for a bari sax especially I would go with jazz band.

if it was me though the only thing that would be stopping me is the fact that wind ensemble is an awful lot of my friends are in wind ensemble, and the experience is juss totally different.

good luck deciding, i know i would have a hard time

if you cant work out getting both, i would say do which ever one you like more.

if you like both of them alot, think to the future.. are you going to do classical or jazz(if your even going on with music).. if it comes down to it, i think i would choose which everone you need the experience in..

personaly i would do jazz. = )

Bari sax players are harder to come by nowadays, so I would stick with Jazz band. Your director could always draft someone into the woodwind ensemble.

If you are planning on being a music major in college, you need to do two things: Switch to alto and be in both wind ensemble and jazz band. You cannot major in bari sax in college. If you are not going to be a music major, you should stay in wind ensemble because you will get a more well-rounded musical experience in that setting. You can always play in a jazz group somewhere, but once you leave high school you will have trouble getting into a concert ensemble.

Thanks everyone, but I'm staying with Wind Ensemble instead. Turns out I can't do Jazz unless I have a concert band class (Wind or Symphonic). Therefore, I can only do Wind.

same problem....
