Chaparral Orchestra Concert to Benefit Japan Relief Fund
Mark your calendars for March 24 & 25

DIAMOND BAR, CA--The Chaparral Middle School Orchestra Department will present spring concerts on March 24 & 25 in conjunction with March’s “National Music in the Schools” month.

The concerts, which are free of charge, have been dedicated to supporting the Red Cross Japan Relief Fund. Donations will be collected at the door.

On Thursday, March 24, the concert will feature the 8th grade Sinfonia Orchestra under the direction of Greg Rochford and the Diamond Bar High Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Steve Acciani.

And on Friday, March 25, all three Chaparral orchestras will perform. The groups include the Prelude Orchestra (beginning), Philharmonia Orchestra (6th and 7th grade), and Sinfonia Orchestra (8th grade). A wide variety of music will be performed including El Toro, Over the Sea to Skye, Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18, Harvest Reel, Largo, from Symphony No. 9 “From The New World”, Dragon Dances, and Declaration.

The concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the new Chaparral Event Center (gymnasium) located at 1405 S. Spruce Tree in Diamond Bar.

The Chaparral Orchestra has the distinction of being the only middle school selected, as well as two of only four orchestras that will perform at the Capital Orchestra Festival at the Kennedy Center in May. Two orchestra groups, Philharmonia and Sinfonia, will travel to Washington, DC from May 5-9 to perform at the festival.

Saturday, May 14th will be the End-of-the Year Concert featuring all 312 string players in one massed orchestra. The theme of the concert is “MUSIC - It Brings the World Peace, Love and Joy!” The concert will begin at 6pm and will be held in the Chaparral Event Center (gymnasium).
