He DOESN'T. Four-and-a-half minutes of circular breathing and non-stop detached 16th-notes with no rests. On a trumpet. Pretty amazing.

I'm pretty sure circular breathing involves actual breathing, haha.

You have to listen to Sergi Nakariakov and Wynton Marsalis play it also. I think both of them perform it better than the recording of Rafael Mendez linked above.

Didn't care for the Marsalis version (all slurs=no impact), but the Nakariakov version is spectacular. And yes, I'd say better than the Mendez version.

The Mendaz version showed up on my youtube page as a suggestion yesterday, I like the other versions too. I had found him for this video and like this old TV show he did on the trumpet. There is something endearing and charismatic him to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUij8FCg ... L&index=10

Do you think recording techniques have changed between the Mendez version and the Marsalis version? All due respect to Marsalis(clearly one of my favorite trumpeters), Mendez was playing this before Marsalis was a gleam in his daddies eye. 8-)

This is obviously a difficult piece for any one person to play, but how about 40 violins playing it in unison.......

:drop:

That was phenomenal. Not just 40 violins, 40 KIDS. The oldest one was, what, 15 at most?

Comment of the century from that YouTube video:
"I, for one, welcome our new fiddle overlords and will begin stockpiling rosin immediately."

This should be a soprano/trumpet section feature in a show for BD or Phantom...
