Post subject:  Instrument nomenclature

So I am up in Oregon at the American Band College, and one of the subject areas I have to improve on is instrument nomenclature.... Does anyone have any helpful tips or know of good websites that might have more info on this? Aside from playing in an orchestra (which I don't have too much experience doing), where can I find more information about instruments' different names?

Thanks!

Sorry, but I can't find my note cards I used to study for that. I think I gave them to someone else a few years ago.

Your biggest asset to learning the material up there is to ask the 2nd and 3rd year people for help. I found them to be extremely valuable sources of information. They will know what you need to know or how to get it.

You should also ask Liz, the lady that goes around taking all the pictures. She has a website that has a really cool nomenclature study program. That's how I studied mine when I had that area of weakness.

I found this, and later found the same link on an ABC page, so it should be helpful.

Nope... But it is interesting that the Latin word tuba means trumpet.

Actually, it means "horn".
