Hey, some of those works you listed are Orchestral pieces, NOT wind ensemble works. Sure they have been transcribed for Wind Ensembles.

I'm sure he or she meant the wind ensemble transcription, not the orchestral version. Though as far as I know, the only movement of Shostakovich's 5th that has been transcribed for WE is the fourth movement.

Looking back though, pretty much anything put in front of us was always fun, challenging, and wonderful to play.

Africa: Ceremony, Song, and Dance (Smith) <--id always get chills in the opening statement...haha prolly my most favorite song ever, and we played it last year at our concert. right at the end after the final note, we heard a guy go..."Wow..." and then everyone cheered

Remember: two different Alford's. "Army of the Nile" was written by Englishman Kenneth J. Alford (though that was just his pen name); "The Purple Carnival" was written for the Northwestern University marching band by American Harry L. Alford.
