Really? I'm pretty familier with Clifton Williams stuff..I've never heard of "Songs of Heritage."

I handled that beast of a bassoon part with a skipping cd!

Songs of Heritage was the last piece Wiliams composed before his death. I believe it was scored for band by one of his students at the Univ of Texas. It is a wonderful piece of music. I am planning on doing this year with my middle school band.

I found it on a program for the Ashland, Oregon City Band, It lists W. Francis McBeth as the arranger.

Yes, I just read about it on line too. It appears it was not actually "completed by Clifton Williams before his death" but was left as just a sketch, or series of sketches. McBeth put them together and finished them...just how much is unknown. The two men were good friends.

I have never heard it, but I must say by the description printed in the catalog it doesn't sound very "Clifton Williamsish." I'm sure it will turn up on CD soon enough.

I just played Wild Nights with the SJSU Wind Ensemble, it was a pretty fun piece.

A new favorite of mine is "Give us This Day" by Maslanka. It's so beautiful.

Does anybody have a good recording of "A Lincoln Portrait" by Aaron Copland???
