So...I posted twice, so I'm gonna use this extra post and list some pieces I really like. We had to make a list like this in my Methods class (the full class title is "Music Methods for the Elementary and Secondary Schools", basically music ed stuff.)

Here's the list I came up with:

First Suite in E-flat
Flag of Stars (my professor actually hadn't heard of this piece, and it shocked me!)
Postcard
Armenian Dances
October
Suite of Old American Dances
Symphonic Movement
Blue Shades
American Salute
Overture to "Candide"

Now, this list is pretty much based off of pieces I've played or atleast sightread, so it's kind of limited, but these are some of my favorite pieces out there for Wind Ensembles. 8-)

thats a good one too though....
Were you talking about a piece by Holst? If so...It's either First Suite in Eb or Second Suite in F. You could see where someone could get confused...
First Suite in F is by Thom Ritter George. he wrote it for the 50th anniversary of the U.S. navy band
Ok. It's just one of those confusing things...similar names, ya know? haha. Thanks for the clarification, though!!

Yeah, that Ron Nelson is greeeaat. We did it a few years back, and it was our audition piece for our school's wind ensemble. The clarinet part is not fun when you're worrying about placements!

I don't think I have heard this before. Does anyone have a recording they can post up?

the best version is probably the north texas wind symphony if you can get your hands on it
