Here are some of my favorites:
"Amazing Grace" by Ticheli- an absolutely beautiful arrangement of a classic hymn. His use of harmonic texture is excellent, and hearing it played well gives me goosebumps every time.
"Ghost Train (all movements)" by Eric Whitacre- this piece is one of my favorites because it strikes in me so many different emotions. At times it is very beautiful and refined, while at other times it is dark and aggressive. Whitacre is also great with using harmony to create many different textures.
"Ride" by Hazo- It's fast, exciting, has killer percussion parts and woodwind runs, and an alto sax solo to die for.
"English Dances (set no. 1)" by Malcolm Arnold (the version arranged for band)- I'm not sure why I like this piece so much; maybe because it's beautiful and exciting but in a way unlike anything else in the repertoire (in my opinion).
There are others, of course, but those are the main ones.

Oh man, "Four Scottish Dances" is SO hard for woodwinds, but I'm only basing that after one sight-read. It was crazy.UHS_picc28 wrote:Four Scottish Dances

An American Elegy...It's so moving when you know the story behind it.
And I whole-heartedly agree on "An American Elegy." That piece is SO moving if played well and in tune...the majestic portion is simply tear-jerking.
My other personal favorites are the Holst Military Suites, "English Folk Song Suite" by Vaughn Williams, "Variations on a Korean Folk Song" by Barnes Chance, "Chorale and Shaker Dance" by Zdechlik, "Mannin Veen (Dear Isle of Man) - A Manx Tone Poem" by Wood, among many others. Those pieces I just love the most.

Another favorite of mine would have to be The Echo Never Fades - David Gillingham the story behind it so touching and moving. Saratoga recently played this piece at the Sydney Opera House and in addition we got to Premiere a composition from David Gillingham specifically written for the Festival we attended "Premiering Sydney".
