Liturgical Dances by David Holsinger....we played it this year...very cool piece. :D

I like a few of swearingen's pieces, but too many of them sound alike, which has sort of turned me off to his music (although by no means do I "hate" him. I just prefer other composers)

Ok. A lot of you guys posted about Blue Shades being amazing. I don't see it. It seems like Ticheli's ripoff of Rhapsody in Blue--that same Jazzy, blues-y feel.

Was that intentional? I'd feel better if it was.

yeah, so if you havea more advanced wind ensembl i would look into these, because they are really cool pieces

He wasn't the first composer to do orchestrate Pictures at an Exhibition. It has been said that the piano composition was the basis for Mussorgsky's own orchestral composition of the suite. Only he died before he had the chance to do it.
