I really enjoyed Elegy For A Young American. Amazing Piece. Very moving sound.

Another piece that was amazing was Jupiter from The Planets.

The Elephant by James Ord Hume is breathtaking. Very dark sound.

Simoraine is also an amazing but challenging piece. 6 tuplets on the euphonium, 16th note runs for the trombone, and even 6 tuplets for the tuba. Incredible.

The last piece I must put is Canzona by Peter Mennin. Incredibly difficult. But it is worth it to hear the finished product after working on it.

Quick add on, Grand March by Wagner is also a great piece.

Favorite Fast-Paced/Epic Pieces
Awayday - Adam Gorb Exciting, and gives me very fond memories.
Rocky Point Holiday - Ron Nelson Quirky, spunky, and light, I love the complex writing in this piece.
In the Spring, at the Time When Kings Go Off to War - David Holsinger Crazy! This piece is insane and will blow your mind away.

Favorite Slow Pieces
An American Elegy - Frank Ticheli Beautiful and tragic, it helps us remember a fateful day in American history.
Sleep - Eric Whitacre Spine chilling piece, even a bit haunting, but still relaxing. Both the chorale version and the band version are great
October - Eric Whitacre Heart-warming and lush melody; great pondering music
The Echo Never Fades - David Gillingham Another piece with a great meaning behind it, with a beautiful solo for alto saxophone

Favorite Pieces w/ Multiple Movements
Lincolnshire Posy - Percy A. Grainger THere's a reason why this is a classic! The mvts are just great.
Dance Movements - Philip Sparke Woodwinds will have a party on this one.
Gloriosa - Yasuhide Ito An Awesome piece that mixes Japanese and Western cultures to create an epic tale.

Were you talking about a piece by Holst? If so...It's either First Suite in Eb or Second Suite in F. You could see where someone could get confused...

If you haven't heard them already, check out "To Tame the Perilous Skies" and "The Armies of the Omnipresent Otserf." I think they are Holsinger's two best "epic" works for band.

I've teetered on Stephen Melillo's stuff. Some of his music can be pretty meaty, but I've had a beef with the way he's ended many of his compositions (generically speaking).

Perhaps the one piece that really does it for me (from beginning to end) is "Godspeed". (Yes, even above "Stormworks".)

First Suite in F is by Thom Ritter George. he wrote it for the 50th anniversary of the U.S. navy band
