What is "Drumline"

Post by ChaoSnare » Tue Mar 02, 2004 11:28 pm

What exactly is drumline? Is it only those who play drums? Or is it the whole percussion ensemble? Battery and pit make up drumline- or is it drumline and pit make up the percussion? At my school there were some issues between pit and battery about this- so what's your school's definition of drumline, battery, pit, and percusson? And why?

At my school people have a problem understanding what the drumline is because they think it is just the battery. It is actually the battery and the pit and what ever else keeps a steady beat without being anything but a drum or percussive instrument. I hope that answers your question. 8-)

"Drumline" is a line of drums :D

A "Percussion Ensemble" is a musical form of "art" consisting of...

*The battery
-Snares
-Tenors(Quads)
-Basses
-Cymbals

*The Pit
-Mallet Instruments
-Auxillary Percussion/Tympani
-Keyboards/Pianos
-Electronic Strings

All of this put together=a pretty cool and competitve thing

I consider a drumline to be all of the drums ex: snare, Tenors, Bass and everything else is percussion but Im not quite sure what a marching cymbal player is. :?
