What does your line do on the day of a competition? How many hours do you get to warm up? Any rituals for fun?

i try to relax the kids... if we have time (like we did at granada) we'll have rehearsal through most of our down time before our next show. my coinstructor and i will actually let the kids decide what they want to play (ie warmups that haven't been played since the start of the season). we try to not let them get all hyped and run around cause i'm sure all instructors who've seen it, witness how exausted the kids get after.

most of the rituals are saved for champs week..."bonding" time

we had altoids when i was in high school...then with the empty tins, it somehow became tradition to have it attached somewhere on the instrument. we dont know how that became "good luck" but my friend ryan and i would eat em when we were starving at rehearsal (love afterschool rehearsal...no time to eat), and when we were done, instead of throwin the tin away, we'd keep it. the kids don't know the stupidity in the tradition, but that's it right there.
