I know that a number of Californian high school drummers have been in need of a solo competition within the state. The SJVCGPR circuit MAY be opening up its solo competition (April 2, 2005) to high school soloists from anywhere around the Central California region. Currently it is open to all those who are registered to perform in a 2005 SJVCGPR circuit show with a highschool ensemble. It is a SOLO competition. No bass ensembles are allowed. Previous years allowed mallet instruments to compete, but I am unsure of this years rules.
The competition will not be open to anyone unless there are enough drummers interested in competing. There is tentatively a $10 fee for all registered competitors. The competition will take place at the Buchanan High School campus in Clovis, CA. The judges panel is said to be worth the drive to Buchanan, but will remain untold. There is also the possibility of the judges performing a solo of their own after the competition is finished.
For those in the circuit, this competition follows the circuit percussion championships (April 1st), and is on the same day as the circuit colorguard championships (April 2nd).
Further information regarding competition times will be given to those who register through SJVCGPR (no registration form yet). However, expect a morning/early afternoon competition. I will post more details as they arive.
Anyone interested is urged to vote in the above poll. Again, this competition will not be open to non-circuit members unless there is enough interest.[/u]

Fairly recent news...sorry to those of you who might have been looking forward to competing in this solo competition who are not in the circuit.
Who? The solo competition has been now limited to anyone who performs in the
SJVCGPR Circuit Championships on April 1st.
What? A solo on either snare drum, tenor drum, bass drum (yes, solo), or a
mallet instrument from 1.5-3 minutes long.
Where? Buchanan High School, Clovis CA. Exact room will be given to
competitors who sign up.
When? April 2nd, 2005 Approx. 10 AM
How? Sign-up sheets will be available at the remaining competitions. A $10 fee
is required for all those competiting. There will be a Jr. High and High
school division.
Judges? Judges names will remain annonymous, but are not from the local area
Awards? Medals will be given to first place winners only. Additional prizes will be
given out to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
