I must agree with Survivor. im a snare player at my high school, but i must say in a show i always look forward to killer bass runs. There are also occassional times last year where the whole snare line would sit down with some of the basses and play runs and i must say it gives me a chill just to tripple a 69 split....but i dont think id be leaving my snare.......never.......

i love basses! splits are the best especially when they are hella tight and clean!
lol...i haven't even posted in awhile, but reading this topic got me runnin' again!
*sigh* ...i sure wish i hadn't graduated, though, so i could still be in my favorite bassline of '03! =)

snuh, guh, munch...NYEAH! =)
While I've played them all, there's a definate heirarchy (that's an order of importance) that's typically followed when assigning players to instruments:
Bass - good team players, good pulse concepts & subdivision of the beat, limited technique.
Tenor - same as bass, but with better technique and reading ability; may lack coordination on drags & rolls and uniformity of style (it's easier to hide this on tenors).
Snare - same as above, but with the best uniformity fo technique and ability to play drags, rolls, and flam patterns.
Just remember - every team needs all the positions covered by good players!

I know what everyone is talking about, when it comes down to the whole bass drum thing, I've even marched thumper for a Drum Corps in 2000, but I have to say that I am a tenor drummer at heart...Sorry.
Don't get me wrong, I will hand it to a bass line that can play together, any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
I like taking what a bass line sounds like with the hard stuff that a snare line can play and make it look hard on a set of tenors. That just me.
That's just me.

im a quad and bass player, so i choose those 2
Best
Snares are the funnest to play. It takes a lot of skill to play the exact samething as 3 or 4 other guys. On snare you play the hardest licks and the most often. Bass is fun I agree, but it takes a little more skill and uniform technique to play snare, and it is easier to hear dirt in a snare line, than a bass or tenor.

That is very true, I'm a bass player, obviously, and I KNOW when it sounds dirty.
