Impulse Promotes Dan Zeilinger

Post by Mr Pageantry » Mon Oct 11, 2004 2:47 pm

BUENA PARK CA... IMPULSE Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to announce the promotion of DAN ZEILINGER to AssociateCorps Director. As one of the founders of Impulse, Dan has been intimately involved in the continued growth of Impulse. His acceptance of this new challenge is evidence of Dan's commitment to helping Impulse achieve its full potential. Before now Dan has been the brass arranger where his intricate arrangements, full of musical surprises and featuring a wide range of musical styles have long been an Impulse tradition. For the last 2 years he has acted as Brass caption head, guiding the horn line to its mature sound last summer. We welcome Dan in his new capacity where he brings endless enthusiasm and a tireless work ethic.

Dan Zeilinger has the unique ability to connect with all aspects of a drum corps. As a father whose children have marched, he relates easily to both members and parents. In his capacity as brass caption head, Dan showed a remarkable ability to facilitate interaction between the sections to affect the goals of the organization. His work on the Board of Directors enables him to see the "big picture" and to help guide Impulse into the future.

Dan’s involvement in drum corps dates back to the Velvet Knights in the early 70’s where he was a self-described "screech soprano" player. Dan went on to teach the Velvet Knights horn line and write show music for the corps. Dan next became involved in corps in the 90’s with West Coast Sound, and later helped to establish Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps.

Dan has also played professional tuba for over 30 years, where his work took him on many tours of the United States, Europe and Asia. As a music writer and arranger, his jazz work has been featured on several commercially and critically acclaimed albums.

His involvement in the southern California high school scene is strong, too. He is currently Assistant Director at Canyon High School in Anaheim Hills, CA and writes music and drill for numerous local high school programs each season.

We are glad that Dan's warmth, drive, and good cheer, will long be a part of IMPULSE
