The movie Drumline

Okay, seriously the only thing that I've ever heard about the movie Drumline is that it's the movie is the stupidest movie ever and a disgrace to drumlines... I've only seen the beginning part of the movie, but seriously it doesn't bother me that much. Now when I tell people that I have drumline practice after school, they don't think that I'm a big band nerd because they liked the movie. Why is that bad? I'd rather have them enjoy the movie and think that drumline is something cool than to think it's dumb.

The story line I admit is overdone. You've got the kid that doesn't want to conform/coming of age plot. What I don't like about the critics is that they don't see what this movie is doing for the marching world. We've had American Pie 1, 2 and 3 constantly barrage the band geek stereotype. Then Drumline comes along and breaks the barriers. Another misconception is that Drumline is about a different cross section of the marching world.

First of all college band is about having fun while still having musicality. Most naysayers are of the drum corps/competitive marching band group and what I have to say to them is that college band isn't drum corps same as drum corps isn't marching band.

The band in this movie also is based on the Historically African American College Bands. Consultants were brought in from Morris Brown, UGA, and many other neighboring Atlanta schools. So of course this style of pageantry will be different then let's say Southern California or the Midwest. Also many members of my fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi were brought in to help. KKPsi is the national honorary band fraternity which acts as the booster organization to the college band. All these consultants made sure what was portrayed on screen was authentic.

Another good point this movie brings in is the emphasis on MUSIC. I like how Orlando Jones's character placed an emphasis on having musicality and education in the band program.

As for the drumline being dirty well if you want clean then go watch drum corps. College band as I said before is all about having fun.

i have to say the thing that pissed me off the most in the movie was not the people moving around so much while playing to pre recorded music but the fact that they glorify the individual in that show. marching band is all about team work and you cant reallly have indivduals who want to do their own thing like that(i guess they want it to be more 'sports like' kinda how sports celebrate star players but in marching band we dont have star players). but as for the movie drumline, i didnt think it was stupid, surprised it had a story and stuff like that

eh.. drumline.. eh. haha

i wasnt pleased with the grudges and bickering and argueing that went on between the kid and the drum captain dude. in drumline, freshmen DO NOT. I REPEAT. DO NOT. argue and bicker with the drum captain. the drumline along with the pit has to be the closest and most tight knit unit of the band because if drumline and pit do not trust each other, everything falls apart. and id just like to say that the fact that there was no pit kinda pissed me off.. but.. thats just me :P

College bands don't have pits.

it's because the movie drumline was based on a "show style band", not traditional... We are traditional style band, that's why it's different to us, and other people...

CAN WE SAY "INSULT"
I thought it was hilarious  how when they showed someone playing, it was either their hands or their face that they showed, but never both at the same time. Also I don't know why they used straps instead of harnesses. Also I don't really care if people think I'm a Band geek or not. I'm just a total music freak  . I don't play to impress people who laugh at something they can't do. All I know is that I have something to look forward to at school. :!:
