What makes A Good Drum Line?

Well, as the co-captain of my Drum Line and a senior, I have been through so much. I don't know by what definition you determine what the "best drumline" is, it is probably like Ayala HS or San Marcos HS (from Santa Barbara, CA, not down south). Being in the Santa Barbara High School drumline I have learned a lot even this year. Wow how much it sucks this year that we have no instructor (just a drummer who teaches crazy beats... yeeeeaah, not an instructor). The funny thing is that from our last instructors, we learned so much and took it upon ourselves to continue working hard, not having any goals. Right now, in the 3A division we have taken High Percussion at the Loara Tournament, 1st Place Percussion at Rampage (Valencia, CA), and Sweepstakes Percussion at the Oxnard Field Tournament. So not bad, right now we are at the hardest place of improvement and we don't even have someone to lead us to excel, but our own self will. So if you ask me, we have a rockin Drum line with much of our sucess from what we've learned in life and self determination. But I have to say the best drum line in my opinion is San Marcos from Santa Barbara, if you don't believe me just wait till WGI

Shorty,
ADLA show assignments are based on several factors, including the geographic location of the site, the size and configuration of the site, and most importantly, the dates which the school requests for a show. The folks at Rubidoux have always hosted quality events, and the changing of the gaurd (okay, director) there had little or nothing to do with your school not getting a show assignment. We hope to return to Rubidoux in years to come. In the meantime, I hope you and the members of your line have a very successful season wherever you perform!

Well I would have to say that the best High school drumline has to have 3 things.

1. They have to have a book that is really really good. And by a good book that does not mean some Mary Had A Little Lam type of a book. It has to be a book that goes with the band and the pit. The DL has to be able to play the book clean too. So for example some groups out there have simple books and they win all the time because its clean. Well I like to say ok yes its clean but they are not the best DL because its clean. I hope you all get what I'm saying

2. They also have to be able to march well. And I dont mean crabing your feet or anything I mean you have to be able to march well. You have to be able to out show all the other DLs just by marching alone. Now if you cant do that then you are not even in the top 5

3. The last thing you must do to become the top DL is you have to be able to do all of these things on the field. You have to do them all perfect and not just once but every time. You have to do it at every show so everyone will see you

All of these things go into the catagory of the top DL and there are not many lines out there that can do this.......RB can and that is my pic on the best Out side DL

Clean or Best?

I would have to say that Hogan has a really good DL but they aren't very clean. LP/O has an awesome, almost unbeatable DL, but they get too ahead of themselves. I can't really choose between my own DL or Hogan but I will. I'd say Hogan, because our guys get pissed when anyone trys to compliment them.

Well I'm not in the drumline at Granada Hills for the Fall, but just watching them practice, i was like whoa!! they did pretty good all season, mostly first, and they went that far with 2 rookies in the snare line and i mean they are rookies, but they made it through. But second semester for winter line, some of you drumlines in the open might have to watch out. I play snare for winter line, and i'm a senior now, but the bass line is going to rock!! the tonors have been with each other for two years, and i'm going to make the snare line rock!!
If you heard the Drumline at the field shows you might here better second semester, but you might not. I don't want to sound Cocky!! But i am a trumpet player, and you know what they say about trumpet players!!! I'm trying out for Blue devils, scv, sc vanguard cadets and Pacific crest, all for hornline, trumpet. But i want to do drumline for one season in corps! I was friends with blue devils/ rcc drumline last year and they said i have more then the patentisl to make it after i graduate. Well gotta go!!!

Richard Dominguez

Trumpet 00,01,01, 02, 02,03,03, 04 (section leader) Lead trumpets!!
snare winter line 01,02,03,04

Props to Santa Barbara. I have seen you guys perform at Hart and warm up many times and for not having an instructor, its great. I am a tuba player but am into drum corps and have made the bassline for our second semester show so im not totally ignorant to drumlines. I watched Thousand Oaks at our (Moorpark) show and they sent the drumline early to warm up before hand and WHOA!!!! They are amazing. I havent seen Etiwanda, but judging from the scores, they look to be pretty much top 3. Ayala is never dissapointing and San Marcos has always been one of the top lines as well. But for the first time like ever we (Moorpark) beat San Marcos and came within a point of Granada Hills at the Royal show last weekend. So watch out for our second semester line, it will be the first time we have done a none concert percussion show in 4 years.

Hey sandi.... now is the time to move out of town, because if you want us to, we can be jerks. but i dont ever remember us getting ahead of ourselves
